Patrick de Ritis approached music at the age of eight with piano lessons, but it was at the age of thirteen that he started his surprising career as a bassoonist. He studied both instruments for some years, until he decided to devote himself entirely to the bassoon at the age of seventeen.
His musical study curriculum was developed at:
– Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, with Marco Costantini, – Mozarteum in Salzburg, with Milan Turkovic, Klaus Thurneman and under the direction of, among others, Michael Dittrich and Franco Ferrara.
1978 – Abruzzese Symphonic Orchestra, Italy – He won the competition as a bassoon soloist and maintained the position until 1982. 1978 – He became a teacher at Lecce Conservatory, Italy. 1982 – Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Italy – he won the competition as a bassoon soloist. 1985 – Rundfunk A. Scarlatti, Naples, Italy – he won the competition as a bassoon soloist and maintained the position until 1987. 1987 – Rome Opera Theatre, Italy – he won the competition as a bassoon soloist and maintained the position until 1989. 1987 – First prize, Kammermusikwettbewerb Martigny, Several concerts at Schweizer Rundfunk. 1989 – Rundfunkorchester RAI, Rome, Italy – Soloist concerts until 1990. 1990 – Wiener Symphoniker, Austria – he won the competition as a bassoon soloist and is maintaining the position nowadays.
