Andrea Azzi

He graduated in bassoon with top grades and honours in 2001, at the “N. Paganini” Conservatory in Genoa, under the guidance of Luigi Morbelli.
In 1994 he debuted as a soloist at the young age of thirteen with the Conservatory Orchestra, performing in several Italian theatres with Vivaldi’s concerts.

During his studies he attended improvers courses in Aosta and Riva del Garda, with Rino Vernizzi and Valentino Zucchiatti.

He continued his studies in Switzerland with Sergio Azzolini for four years, earning the “Konzert e Solisten diplom” at the Basilea Musikakademie.
Here, he met the Maestros H. Holliger, V. Fedesseiev and F. Benda, with whom he is currently performing chamber music concerts.

From 2001 to 2003 he was an effective member of the European Union Orchestra (EUYO) as the principal bassoon soloist, under the direction of conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Paavo Jarvi, Vladimir Ashkenazy.
During this period, he was called by J. L. Koenig to collaborate with Janacek Youth Orchestra as the principal bassoon.

He collaborated with several orchestras in the role of the principal bassoon: Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Orchestra Verdi in Milan, United World Philarmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonisch Orkest, Kammerorchester Basel.

In 2004 he won the fourth prize at the 5th International Competition of Musical Personalities Alexander Tansman, Lodz (Poland).
In 2006 and 2007 he performed as a soloist with the Kammerorchester Basel, playing G. Rossini and A. Jolivet’s concerts for bassoon and orchestra.
He is currently perfecting himself at the Hochschule fuer Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, with M° Volker Tessmann
and is the first bassoon at the Philarmonic of the Teatro Regio in Turin.
